The best dust is dust that never enters the air. Every tool with a port should be connected. Random orbital sanders, routers, track saws and miter saws all capture reasonably well when hooked up; the miter saw is the notorious exception.

Layer 2: ambient air filtration

Whatever escapes capture stays airborne. An air filtration unit hanging from the ceiling, running during work and for an hour or two afterwards, pulls fine particles out of the room. Cheap units work; the key is running it long enough after you stop.

Layer 3: a respirator on your face
